“Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius” reveals the spirit of the famed Renaissance man and illustrates how his genius lives on through today’s inventors.”
CHICAGO – April 19, 2006 – The inspiring founders of Chicago-based Inventables are being featured in the world-premiere exhibit, Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius, which opened April 14, 2006, at the Museum of Science and Industry.
The exhibit goes beyond Leonardo’s paintbrush, focusing on his remarkable contributions to the fields of science and engineering, the ground-breaking inventions he dreamed up long before their time, and his legacy of innovation and experimentation that lives on today in today’s scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs.
In a section that profiles 40 “contemporary Leonardos,” Inventables founders Zachary Kaplan and Keith Schacht will be presented as modern-day entrepreneurs who exemplify the spirit of Leonardo, carrying on the ideals of his groundbreaking work and quest for knowledge. Sample Inventables kits are on display within the exhibit.
Other contemporary Leonardos featured within the exhibit include: scientist Alan-Izhar Bodner of Israel, who invented an underwater breathing apparatus that collects oxygen from the water; Mark Rosheim of the United States, who developed possibilities of advanced robotic movement through his studies of human anatomy; and engineer Graham Hawkes of the United Kingdom, who created a winged submarine that “flies” underwater.
“One of the reasons that Leonardo da Vinci still resonates today is that he challenged the world to think in new ways, to consider the impossible as possible,” said John Beckman, manager of temporary exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry. “When we sought out our contemporary Leonardos, we looked for people and companies carrying on this ideal, and we are thrilled to be able to feature 40 of today’s remarkable innovators within this exhibit.”
Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius will run through September 4, 2006. More information about the exhibit may be found at www.msichicago.org.
