Using Origami Concept To Create Portable DVD Player, Chicago Company Wins Business Week IDEA Award

Inventables, LLC, a Chicago company that researches inspiring technology and ideas for major corporations such as Nike, Motorola, General Motors and P&G was honored by Business Week with the prestigious IDEA award for designing a portable DVD player concept which uses electronic paper and the ancient Japanese Origami folding principles.
Sponsored by Business Week, the Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) was awarded to worlds best product designs of 2005.
The DVD Player has a clam shell shape but when opened the screen unfurls like a lotus blossom. As a product, it would target travelers with the seemingly contradictory demand: having a large screen while being small and portable.
Tireless advocates of looking to technology for inspiration, the Inventables team was inspired by the potential for the emerging electronic paper technology and the ancient art origami.
